Meaning and history of the flag of Morocco

Morocco's flag is red with a green five-pointed star, known as the Seal of Solomon, centered on the field. The current design was established by Sultan Yusef in 1915, during the French protectorate, and was retained after independence in 1956. The star's lines are interlaced, forming a pentacle.

Red is a color of deep tradition in Morocco, associated with the Alaouite dynasty that has ruled the country since the 17th century and linked to descendants of the Prophet Muhammad. The green star, or pentacle, represents the five pillars of Islam, and green is traditionally associated with the religion. Together they symbolize the kingdom's Islamic identity and dynastic continuity.
