Pick a random country from all 196 — or narrow it down by continent, population, language or geography. Each result comes with the flag, key facts, local time and a fun fact.

Kingdom of Bhutan · South Asia
Jump straight to a random country from one region. With no other filters, the odds of each continent follow its number of countries:
Turn on quiz mode and try to name the country from its flag before you reveal it. Generate 10 at once for a quick round with friends or a class.
Filter by continent or island nations and let the generator suggest your next trip. The result shows the driving side and plug types you would need.
A “country of the day” for a classroom or study plan: each result links to the full profile with history, culture, climate and economy.
Pick a country for a cooking night, a film, a story setting or a draft order. Lists of 3, 5 or 10 are drawn without repeats.
Of the 196 countries, 44 are landlocked (22.4%) and 47 are island nations (24.0%). 38 countries (19.4%) have fewer than one million people, so small states turn up far more often than most people expect — the generator gives every country the same chance, not every person. Only 16 countries have more than 100 million inhabitants.
Every time you press “Generate”, the page picks one country with equal probability from the 196 countries in our directory (the 193 UN member states plus Vatican City, Palestine and Taiwan), or from the countries that match your filters. With no filters, each country has a 1 in 196 chance (about 0.5%).
Not until you have seen every country that matches your filters. The generator remembers what it has shown in this browser tab and only starts repeating once the whole list has been used. “Start over” clears that memory.
Africa, because it has the most countries: 54 of 196, so roughly 27.6% of unfiltered picks. Oceania, with 14 countries, comes up least (7.1%).
No. A microstate like Vatican City is as likely as China. That is why small countries appear so often: 38 countries have fewer than a million people, while only 16 have more than 100 million.
Yes. Each result has its own link (for example /random/#kenya). Opening that link shows the same country, and pressing “Generate” continues with random picks.
