Information we collect

Countries.World is a static informational website. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask you to submit personal information to browse the Site. We do not sell personal data.

If you contact us by email, we receive the information you choose to include in your message, which we use solely to respond to you.

Location and the country finder

The What country am I in? tool can use your device's location to name the country you are standing in. Your browser asks permission before providing coordinates. Country matching happens on your device. Displaying the map sends tile requests to OpenStreetMap that reveal the viewed area and your IP address. Boundary detail requests to our site also identify a broad map area. Coordinates are kept out of the address bar during normal use. Choosing “Share location link” creates a URL fragment containing the coordinates: recipients can read it, but browsers do not send fragments in HTTP requests. Older links using query parameters send those parameters to the site on their initial request; the page removes them before subsequent reloads. Looking up a street address is optional and asks before sending precise coordinates to OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service.

Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate, anonymous usage of the Site — such as which pages are popular and general visitor counts. We do not load our analytics script on the country finder page.

Cookies

Third-party services

Some features rely on third parties. Country profile maps load OpenStreetMap tiles when opened. The country finder loads them when its map approaches the viewport; your browser then communicates directly with that service. These providers have their own privacy policies.
