Ecuador lies in South America. Its geographic centre is at about 1.83° S, 78.18° W, and the capital, Quito, is at 0.22° S, 78.51° W.

With 283,561 km², it is the 12th-largest of the 35 countries in the Americas — about 1.2 times the size of the United Kingdom.
